Porsche's design director wants to have "more influence on Porsche styling" and will start this off by creating a 2-door, smaller SUV for the German auto maker called Cajun.
In an interview at the 2010 Paris Motor Show with auto industry publication Automotive News, design chief Walter de' Silva said, "I really hope to be able to add something positive to Porsche's new models, which will remain coherent with the great tradition of Porsche...The Cajun will be the first new Porsche created under my influence."
The 2-door Cajun is expected to debut in late 2013 as a 2014 model. It will be smaller than the Audi Q5, with a shorter-wheelbase and standing not as tall as that sibling SUV. It will compete against the likes of smaller two door SUV (or CUV - Cross Utility Vehicle) from other German car companies.
The rational for a 2-door Cajun, according to Porsche, is to not take away sales from its sister ride, the larger Cayenne model, which is a huge money maker for Porsche. A 2-door compact SUV from Porsche that's supposed to be a baby-Cayenne may just be distinctive enough to grab buyer's attention who want something like the larger vehicle but without all the space, and with a little bit of a sportier feel.
