The new Porsche 911 GT3 is Coming

We can hardly ever wait when we get to hear new details about the upcoming 2013 Porsche 911 GT3!  First we got to see spy shots of the sports car doing laps at the famed  Nurburgring, but than the German automaker released some official specs. We know, it's not set to roll into Fred Lavery Company until early next year.  But that doesn't mean we can't pour over every detail that becomes available right?

Right. So, let's start by saying that the car it's based on, the 991 Porsche 911 is already available. And we love it. Suffice it to say, the GT3 is off to a good start.

To the engine Porsche will be replacing the 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that powers the 997-based GT3 RS 4.0.  What will be powering the GT3 instead will be the 3.8-liter six-cylinder - the same engine that powers the 911 Carrera S, but with horsepower being raised to 450 hp. Continuing the trend of previous GT3 models being lightweight sport cars, the car will weigh just under 3,000 lbs.

Porsche hasn't put much effort into trying to disguise the GT3 at the track.  Based on the pictures the German automaker has added a front spoiler and a larger rear wing.  The front bumper is completely new with larger air intakes, and dual central exhaust pipes on the backside.

Fans of stick shift will be disappointed as the only transmission option available will be the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch.  Manual transmission sales of 911 models have continued to decline (even in top performance models) the past few years.  With that being said we know many Porsche purists will still be unhappy, but consider this most racing teams using the GT3 utilize the PDK dual-clutch transmission.

The  2013 Porsche 911 GT3 is expected to produce  0-60 times of under four seconds, and a top speed of just under 200 miles per hour.

Be on the lookout for the new Porsche 911 GT3 to debut at the Geneva Motor show in March, and to reach showroom floors following that event.   With that in mind, be sure to stay tuned with the team here at Fred Lavery Company for continued updates on this and other forthcoming new Porsche models.
